November 2020 Newsletter

Get Out And Vote!  We’ve been waiting and preparing for this day for months! This year's election has high stakes for the LGBTQ+ community with laws around anti-discrimination protections in housing, education, health care, and more hanging in the balance.

Cast your ballot and let your voice be heard today, then post a picture on social media with the hashtag #LGBTQVote so we can show the world that the LGBTQ+ community shows up to vote for equality.

It's Open Enrollment Time:  Nothing has changed: LGBTQ+ people are protected from discrimination in health care and health insurance.  It’s that time of year again – open enrollment is back!  From now until December 15th, you can find health insurance that fits your needs and your budget for 2021.

Getting health insurance is easier than ever at HealthCare.gov.  If you've still got questions, find a FREE in-person LGBTQ+-friendly assister in your area.  Make an appointment today at out2enroll.com/enrollment-help and get covered before the December 15th deadline.

Fulton V. City of Philadelphia:  On November 4th, the Supreme Court will hear a case that could allow private agencies that receive taxpayer-funding in order to provide government services — such as foster care, adoption, food banks, homeless shelters, and more — to deny services to people such as the LGBTQ+ community, single women, and people who are of Jewish, Muslim, or Mormon faiths.

In 2018, the City of Philadelphia ended one of its contracts with Catholic Social Services to provide foster care services because the agency had refused to certify same-sex couples as foster parents, which violated both the city’s nondiscrimination law and the city’s contract for foster care services. They claim they have a constitutional right to do so because they have a religious objection to serving these families. Freedom of religion has always a fundamental and protected right -- but that freedom doesn’t give any of us the right to impose our beliefs on others, or to discriminate.

Join us on November 4th at 5pm PT/ 8pm ET for a virtual town hall where we'll discuss the arguments made in court, potential outcomes, and what we can do between now and  decision day, which will be in the Spring of 2021.

Got Your .Gay Domain Yet?   While similar to traditional domains like .com or .net, the .gay domain is unique because it opens up a completely new namespace for LGBTQ+ people to connect online.  The launch of .gay comes with increased visibility and celebration of LGBTQ+ people, groups, and businesses around the world, and more opportunities to keep LGBTQ communities safe online.  And 20% of all new .gay registration revenue (not just profit!) is donated to LGBTQ+ organizations - including CenterLink - to help address key issues facing this community.

Take This Survey:  Do you have lived experience of substance use challenges, including addiction? Please consider taking this anonymous survey by November 6th and help improve treatment and recovery services for everyone. People who have experience with substance use disorders treatment and services know what works and doesn’t work for them. But too often, they are left out of policy decisions – like how treatment and recovery programs are designed, and how programs can help people meet their recovery goals. Community Catalyst and Faces & Voices of Recovery want to change that!

Take the survey in English here.

Take the survey in Spanish here.
