As 2019 comes to a close, we'd like to acknowledge your hard work and dedication to protecting and expanding LGBTQ rights.
Thanks to you, the House of Representatives passed the Equality Act. While the bill has yet to see the Senate floor, we continue to make progress; with over 70 percent of Americans agreeing that federal LGBTQ protections are necessary.
Thanks to you, the Every Child Deserves a Family Act was introduced into Congress. The bill ensures that no taxpayer-funded foster care or adoption agency can turn away qualified prospective parents or mistreat youth in foster care because of who they are, who they love, or what they believe.
Thanks to you, we submitted over 200,000 comments to the Department of Health and Human Services, insisting that Section 1557 of the Health Care Rights Act must continue to reference protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, sex stereotyping, and gender identity.
Thanks to you, we helped find sponsors for LGBTQ refugees pursuing asylum claims, we protected the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program from serious budget cuts, we continued to challenge the trans military ban, and we watched the Supreme Court hear oral arguments around Title VII and LGBTQ employment protections.
YOU HELPED TO ACCOMPLISH ALL OF THESE THINGS. We are grateful for your participation, and we look forward to working with you more in 2020, as we focus on encouraging our community to vote for equality and to stand up and be counted in the 2020 census.
