It’s official: Joe Biden has been elected as the 46th President of the United States. With this election, Biden’s running mate Senator Kamala Harris becomes the first woman, first Black woman and first Asian American to serve Vice President.
We look forward to working closely with the new Administration, because LGBTQ+ Americans are still in danger of being denied housing, refused services, or turned away from healthcare simply because of who they are.
Right now there is a lot of support around putting federal LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination protections in place. 21 states and 300 cities already have such protections and 83% of Americans believe these protections should be written into law. The US House already passed the Equality Act, and a bi-partisan Supreme Court ruled that companies do not have a right to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people in the workplace.
CenterLink, along with LGBTQ+ community centers across the country are ready to take action to ensure LGBTQ+ voices are heard in 2021 and beyond.
