I visited Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center for HIV testing, and following my test, I went to the Executive Director’s office and said with cash in his hand, "I'd like to donate my co-pay." I was reminded that services are free, no insurance or co-pays are needed and that the center was glad I came in to get tested. I responded, "I didn't come here because I couldn't afford an HIV test. I came here because I needed to get tested in a non-judgmental environment. I tried to get tested at my doctor’s office but the doctor made me feel bad by saying 'you had sex with how many people?'”. This is why LGBT community centers are so important: they provide safe and non-judgmental spaces to access health information.
