Any day now, we are expecting a decision from the US Supreme Court on whether LGBTQ workers are protected from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity under current federal law. On #DecisionDay (whichever day that may be), Equality Texas, ACLU of Texas, Lambda Legal, Texas Freedom Network, Transgender Education Network of Texas, and the Human Rights Campaign will host a virtual community gathering on Facebook Live featuring legal experts and community leaders to unpack and explain the impact of the Court's decision on these vital cases. Register here to be notified day-of and join us for this historic moment for our community.
These cases are particularly important for LGTBQ Texans. Because Texas doesn't have a statewide nondiscrimination law, these decisions have the capacity to either affirm or roll back what few federal employments protections LGBTQ Texans hold. In this moment of national crisis, we hope to see a decision from that Court that brings our community, and our nation, closer together.
But no matter how the Court decides, comprehensive statewide and federal nondiscrimination protections will ensure that no one should have to worry about being fired from a job, evicted from an apartment, or turned away at the corner store because of who you are or whom you love.
Register here to join the conversation on #DecisionDay and help us continue working towards full and lived equality of LGBTQ Texans.
